Joseph F. Thompson Biography

About Joseph

A New Chapter in Photography, Travel and Storytelling

For most of my adult life, I lived in a world built around service, responsibility, leadership, and mission.

I spent 38 years serving our country through the United States Army and the federal government. My career took me into places and situations I could never have imagined when I was growing up in Detroit. I served as an Army officer, became a combat veteran, worked with extraordinary soldiers and civilians, and eventually held senior positions in federal service.

It was a demanding and rewarding life, and I am enormously proud of it.

But retirement did not feel like the end of my story.

It felt like permission to begin another one.
