Full Day in the Winelands - 27 May 2024

As a world traveler, my journey to the captivating Cape Winelands in South Africa was nothing short of enchanting.

The day began with a scenic drive along the N1 National Road to Franschhoek, where I made a delightful stop at Babylonstoren, one of the oldest Cape Dutch farms.

The stunning fruit, herb, and vegetable gardens at Babylonstoren were a true botanical paradise, and browsing the fresh farm stall and sampling local delicacies was a highlight of the visit.

After departing from Babylonstoren, I continued my journey to Rhebokskloof wine estate for a formal wine tasting experience.

Nestled amid agricultural lands and indigenous fynbos, this estate's unique amphitheater-like terrain and fertile soils provided the perfect setting for cultivating premium wines.

The tasting session at Boschendal Wine Estate was a treat for the senses, with their renowned vintages leaving a lasting impression.

Stellenbach & Wine Tasting - 26 May 2024

As a world traveler, I am always seeking new experiences that blend history, culture, and indulgence.

My recent journey took me to Stellenbosch, a charming South African town famous for its rich heritage and world-class vineyards.

Upon arriving in Stellenbosch, I was immediately captivated by the town's picturesque scenery and impressive architecture. A leisurely drive through the streets provided me with a glimpse of the town's vibrant culture before I set off to explore on my own.

One of the highlights of my visit was the Stellenbosch Museum, where I delved into the history of the town through four beautifully preserved period houses.

These houses offered a fascinating look into daily life and architecture dating back to the early 1700s, allowing me to appreciate the evolution of Stellenbosch over the centuries.

After immersing myself in the town's history, I meandered through the charming oak-lined streets, stopping to peruse the boutiques and shops for unique souvenirs to bring back home.

As the day drew to a close, I bid farewell to Stellenbosch and made my way to a nearby wine estate for a truly decadent experience.

Pointe Des Galets Full Day Island Tour – 20 May 2024

I embarked on an unforgettable journey to Réunion, a place where history and nature collide in a spectacular display.

Reunion Island

Topographic Map of Reunion Island

My first stop was Notre Dame des Laves, a quaint catholic church that miraculously survived the devastating lava flows of 1977.

As I stood in awe of the hardened lava surrounding the church, I couldn't help but feel the resilience of this sacred place.

Next, I ventured to Anse des Cascades, a picturesque valley teeming with vibrant greenery and a series of enchanting waterfalls.

The sight of the cascading waters was a mesmerizing experience, and I found myself lost in the beauty of nature's wonders.

Continuing on to "Le Tremblet," I was greeted by the chilling sight of dried lava flowing from Réunion's recent eruptions.

The stark contrast between the destructive power of nature and the resilience of life was a humbling reminder of the island's volatile beauty.

I concluded my journey in Saint-Philippe, where I indulged in a sumptuous lunch at a local Creole restaurant.

The traditional cuisine and delectable island flavors tantalized my taste buds, offering a perfect end to a day filled with exploration and discovery.

My travel and flight to Mauritius and return to Serenade of the Seas 17 – 18 May 2024

As a seasoned world traveler, I have experienced the highs and lows of long flights to exotic destinations.

One journey that remains vivid in my memory is my economy class flight from Johannesburg, South Africa to the enchanting island of Mauritius.

The flight from Johannesburg to Mauritius was a test of endurance, lasting over four hours in the cramped confines of the back of the airplane.

Squeezed into my narrow seat, I tried to find comfort amidst the limited legroom and the constant hum of the engines.

Despite the challenges of flying in economy, my excitement for the adventures awaiting me on this tropical island paradise kept me going.

Upon touchdown in Mauritius, I was met with the warm tropical breeze and the distant sound of crashing waves.

The subsequent drive to the residence hotel was a stark contrast to the luxurious accommodation that awaited me.

As I peered out of the car window, I was captivated by the vibrant landscapes, lush greenery, and picturesque views that unfolded along the roadside.

The drive to the residence hotel, though long and tiring, offered glimpses of the island's natural beauty - from swaying palm trees to colorful flowers in full bloom.

The journey was a sensory overload, with the scent of tropical fruits wafting through the air and the melodic chirping of exotic birds filling the surroundings.

Upon arrival at the Residence hotel, I was greeted by the warm smiles of the staff, a welcome respite from the weariness of the journey.

The hotel itself, a luxurious oasis, provided stunning ocean views and easy access to the pristine white sandy beaches. After a good night’s sleep and a hearty breakfast, I was ready to take a taxi ride back to Serenade of the Seas and settle back into my cabin.  I was very tired from my African Safari, and I was very happy to get back into the routine of sailing on Serenade of the Seas.

Despite the challenges of flying in economy, I knew that my time in Mauritius would be nothing short of magical.

In retrospect, my long airplane flight from Johannesburg to Mauritius and the subsequent drive to the residence hotel served as a reminder of the grit and determination required to explore new destinations.

Despite the discomforts of economy class travel, the beauty and allure of Mauritius made every moment worthwhile.

This journey reinforced my passion for world travel and the priceless memories it brings.

Multi-Day Adventure - Grand Africa Safari at Forest Lodge 11 – 15 May 2024

It can take a lifetime of travel to even begin to know the hugely diverse landscapes of Africa. But if you only have an American-sized vacation, there is no need to chase charter flight after flight to camp after camp in country after country.

Africa can be taken-in in miniature, provided you know where to go for instance, the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal.

Here, a few hours north of Durban, near the border of the landlocked micro-nation of Eswatini, you will find the 30-year-old Phinda Private Game Reserve—115 square miles of protected land nicknamed the Seven Worlds of Wonder.

It is a cluster of seven distinct, ultra-rare dwarf ecosystems crammed together, including woodland, grassland, wetland, and forest (as well as an unusual sand forest), plus mountain ranges, rivers, marshes, and pans.

It would take a grueling cross-continental, multi-national journey to tick even half of these boxes any other way.

Better still, rare landscapes make for even rarer animals. So, while the Big Five are in abundance, so are shy red duikers, diminutive suni antelopes, Tonga red squirrels, and 436 bird species.
